Welcome to Avon, Colorado
About Avon, Colorado
The gateway to Beaver Creek Resort is Avon, Colorado. All visitors to the ski resort will pass through this small valley town on their way up the dramatic flag-draped hillside into the higher mountains, but Avon has much to draw vacation travelers in its own right. Affordable ski lodging, great restaurants, shopping and other conveniences are only part of the town’s appeal. It also hosts a slew of destination events, such as the Snowball Music Festival, the USA Pro Cycling Expo during the stage race’s passage through the area, and the famous Beaver Creek Rodeo, just to name a few.
Only eight miles from Vail Resort, Avon is often called “the heart of the Vail Valley,” and what lies at the heart of Avon is the beautiful Nottingham Lake. It offers paddle boating and Standup Paddle Board in summer and ice skating in winter and year-round lakeside picnicking and elaborate playgrounds for the kids. Meanwhile, basketball courts, pickleball courts, volleyball and tennis courts, soccer fields and a recreational path are available for the “grown-up kids.”
Kayakers enjoy visiting Avon for the whitewater park. Located under “Bob the Bridge,” the park’s water features are aptly named, Baby Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob Sr. and offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced paddling opportunities. It’s just as much fun for onlookers, as it’s just a few blocks from town center and has a spectator viewing terrace and large flat boulders along the river’s edge for seating!
