Make the Most of Your Vacation in Vail and Beaver Creek
A Rocky Mountain community with an architectural style modeled after the Alps, luxury hotels, world-class dining, star-studded sporting and entertainment events, endless family-friendly vacation activities, an international vibe with a cozy, small-town-feel. These aren’t features you’d expect to find all in one place. But you’ll find them all in Vail.`
Well-known internationally as one of the world’s premier mountain resort destinations, Vail, Colorado and nearby Beaver Creek, have a long history of standing out from the crowd. When the Vail ski resort opened, in the mid-1960s, it boasted the country’s first gondola. Since then, Vail has continually expanded its vacation amenities and visitor offerings, from a Billion Dollar Renewal Project in the mid-2000s, to joining with Beaver Creek Resort in 2015 to host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, to providing the new home for the Burton US Open Snowboard Championships to enhancing skier and snowboarder experiences with a new gondola and new terrain.
Indeed, probably neither the town nor the ski resorts would exist if it weren’t for two characteristics: a passion for mountain sports and innovation. The area was “discovered” in a modern sense when the US Army made it the base of training operations during World War II for the 10th Mountain Division, an elite military unit specializing in high alpine survival and tactics.
The Vail that visitors find today is very different but still very much the same: a place of stunning natural beauty and majestic peaks that offer an endless assortment of year-round recreational opportunities like biking, golf, skiing, horsebackriding, snowmobiling, sledding, tubing, hiking, sightseeing and more. As an added bonus, the cultural opportunities in Vail are incredible with Bravo Music Festival, Vail Interntaional Dance Festival, Vail Jazz Foundation and Beaver Creek’s Vilar Center bringing world-class performances to intimate mountain venues.
